Finally! A post about my fic 😂
So, for those of you who don’t follow my Tumblr, I am writing a Skyrim fanfic of my two characters, an Altmer ex-Thalmor turned vampire named Taylani Valtoris, and my Redguard adventurer and relic hunter mercenary named Nalani Shariq (random spoiler, that name is also the birthname of Aurielle Trevelyan, one of my characters from my Guild Wars 2 fanfic, I know, a LOT 😑).
ANYWAYS, so I downloaded the Kaidan mod for Skyrim AE and am just in love with it. I don’t care to use the Kaidan revoiced mod because I don’t really like the voice acting in it, and the original is fleshed out already (yes, I am aware of the stuff that went down). I decided to romance him with Taylani during my first playthrough with Kaidan. They would make beautiful Akaviri/Altmer Breton babies (since technically anything born with Altmer blood is technically a Breton lol). Ok, so anyways, I am obsessed with how well they mesh together and how much in awe I am with them.
Right now, I have finally gotten past the friendship stage, which is level 70 with Kaidan, and put on the amulet of Mara so he knows I’m interested in him. I’m trying to figure out their dynamic and how to write it concerning the other characters. I feel like Nalani would be a great and chill friend for Kaidan. Still, she’s gonna romance the emotionally unavailable Remiel (Remi), and Nalani is reserved in her emotions, so it works out. They both are intellectuals and would fall in love with each other’s minds. Ok, anyway, back to Taylani and Kaidan. With Kaidan initially being her bodyguard after rescuing him from a Thalmor prison, he will have feelings for her right off the bat, but he doesn’t show them. He’s very protective of her, so he often gets into arguments with Xelzaz and Talisen about Taylani’s choices within the game. He respects Xelzaz but doesn’t like how hypocritical he is about things, and he doesn’t like Talisen because of his Thalmor affiliation. Still, like Taylani, he respects him for removing himself from the Thalmor. He’s neutral with Lucien when Lucien isn’t treating him like a brute, and he adores Auri like a little sibling. He’s indifferent about Redcap and Remi but respects them. Out of everyone, he respects Nalani the most because she’s level-headed and even helps to try to have Taylani see reason with many things. They are good friends, and he genuinely respects her as a Dragonborn.
For Taylani and Kaidan, Kaidan was skeptical at first learning that Taylani is Thalmor, and not just any Thalmor, a Thalmor Justiciar and Wizard. She reassures him often that she basically was sent to die in Skyrim so that First Emissary Elenwen didn’t have to deal with her anymore, which is why she doesn’t claim the Thalmor anymore. This works to her advantage because she ends up knowing all of the major Thalmor players throughout Skyrim and using them to her advantage. This helps to keep Kaidan out of their prying eyes.
I think that throughout the story, when she meets Ancano in the Winterhold questline, is where things get weird between her and Kaidan because at one point she was with Ancano in the Dominion, and she is fighting between the comforts of her old life and the life she’s making now. Ancano tries to sway her to his side for his own needs, while Kaidan and others see this as a farce and help her to see that he doesn’t care for her, only for the power that the Eye of Magnus may provide. She will eventually understand when they all leave Labyrinthian when Estormo attacks them on Ancano’s behalf. She then goes to confront him while trying to save the college, and ends up killing him and breaking down from the loss of her past. Kaidan sees this and consoles her. This situation does bring them closer.
It is a bunch more stuff I need to think about, but I know for a fact these two are my favorite couple right now, since I can’t romance anybody in Morrowind and Oblivion. I love these two to the moon and back, and I hope I can facilitate a closer connection between the two as the writing improves.
